Privacy Policy
Your relationships are not our product.
Mento exists to help you stay close to the people who matter. That only works if you can write honestly, so we hold ourselves to three promises before any fine print:
- We do not sell your data. Not to advertisers, not to data brokers, not to anyone.
- We do not train public AI models on your private relationships. What you write about the people in your life is never used to build or improve a model that others can use.
- Your social graph belongs to you. Your contacts, circles and notes are yours to change or delete whenever you like.
The sections below explain the details.
Data Collection
We collect only what the app needs to work:
- Account details: your name, email address and profile picture, from Google or Apple when you sign in.
- Your roster: the people you choose to keep track of, their contact details, the circles you put them in and how often you want to be in touch.
- Your journal: the check-ins, notes and ratings you log about your interactions.
- Calendar and contacts access: if you connect Google, we read your Google Contacts and your calendars’ availability, and create events when you ask us to plan something. We keep an encrypted connection token so this keeps working.
- Location and time zone: a home base or travel plans you enter, and your time zone, so suggestions fit where you are.
- Basic technical data: logs needed to keep the service secure and reliable, such as request errors and rate-limit counters.
We do not collect advertising identifiers and we do not use tracking pixels.
Data Usage
We use your data only to run the features you ask for:
- Showing your roster and reminding you who you haven’t been in touch with.
- Turning a sentence like “coffee with Alex on Sunday” into a journal entry.
- Finding free time in your calendar and suggesting plans.
- Keeping the service secure, preventing abuse and fixing bugs.
We never use your data for advertising, never build a profile of you to sell, and never show your content to other users. People in your roster do not see that they are in it.
Third-Party Services
We rely on a small number of providers to operate Mento. They process data on our behalf and only for that purpose:
- Supabase — database and authentication.
- Google and Apple — sign-in, and Google Contacts and Calendar if you connect them. Our use of information received from Google APIs follows the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.
- OpenAI — to understand the entries you write and draft plan suggestions. We send only what a request needs, through the API, where inputs are not used to train OpenAI’s models by default.
- Vercel — hosting for the website and API.
- Resend — sending sign-in emails.
Your data is encrypted in transit, and the Google tokens we hold are encrypted at rest.
User Rights
You are in control of your information. You can:
- Access and edit your roster and journal at any time in the app.
- Disconnect Google at any time from your Google Account settings; doing so stops our access.
- Delete your account and everything in it from inside the app, or without reinstalling it on our account deletion page.
- Ask us for a copy of your data, or to correct it, and — where the law gives you the right, including under the GDPR and CCPA — object to or restrict how it is used.
When your account is deleted, your roster, journal and connections are permanently removed and Google access is revoked.
Changes and Contact
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will tell you in the app before it takes effect. Questions or requests can be sent to privacy@thementoapp.com.
